Atomicdust’s Crafty Camp Out for St. Louis Children’s Hospital
Atomicdust was asked once again to get crafty for St. Louis Children’s Hospital following the success of the organization’s 2012 annual report.
The direct mail piece called “Trystan’s Camp Out” tells the story of one child’s experience during a year at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Trystan is a 9-year-old who loves the great outdoors, and the theme of her booklet was “MORE camping trips” – a callback to the “MORE” theme of the annual report. The booklet tells Trystan’s story and its ups and downs, from her many months of chemotherapy to the happy memories that helped her stay positive, including sleeping under the stars at her family’s farm.
Trystan’s booklet comes with her “Survival Guide” for camping trips and life, including a handy checklist: a compass, extra marshmallows, a cozy sleeping bag, great stories, and a backpack for exploring.
Atomicdust once again pulled out the scissors and glue, constructing tents and campfires, and cutting out badges and type. The final product glows with the light of fireflies, the campfire, and the moon.
Donors followed Trystan’s journey throughout the year, receiving direct mail letters that shared her diagnosis, updates on treatment, progress, and personal struggles. The response was huge, and the hospital was pleased to report that direct mail-related donations were up from last year.
We’re also very happy to report that Trystan is now cancer free — and feeling great!
We’re grateful to have had another opportunity to work with St. Louis Children’s Hospital and the inspiring patients and families they support.
