St. Louis is a Great Place for a Career in Design: Launching InternSTL
In 2014, I was excited (and terrified) to serve as the chair for St. Louis Design Week, an event that offered seven days of multidisciplinary, design-related activities all over our city. Events ranged from panel discussions about design and business, to studio tours, to charity-driven art parties, to guys dressed in chicken suits dropping eggs off of buildings (you had to be there), to street celebrations.
It was great, and it reinforced for me that St. Louis is full of talented, passionate people. It’s a great place to have a career in design.
We talk a lot about St. Louis and design at Atomicdust, and we try to do whatever we can to help the scene grow and evolve. This might all sound very noble and selfless, but it’s not. We are selfish about design. We want to surround ourselves with it, and with people who care about it the way we do.
With that in mind, we’re happy to announce we’ve just launched a website to help students find creative internships in St. Louis.
Students have it rough when it comes to finding internship information. You have to know the agencies and firms. You have to dig through their websites. You have to ask uncomfortable questions about pay, college credits and beyond. We want to make the process easier, because students are the future of our design scene.
Our new website, InternSTL.com, is a simple directory of design-focused companies in St. Louis who offer internship programs. The site offers clear answers about internship dates, how interns are compensated for their time and work, and how to apply. We envision the site as a continuously updated resource for students and schools, and as a way for agencies to connect with talented young people.
Want to help us out?
Spread the word. Share the site on Facebook, Twitter and your other social channels. Send it to your students. If you aren’t an instructor, send it to a friend who is.
Add your company to the list. If you offer an internship program, email Tara Nesbitt with the name, email address and phone number of the person students should reach out to, the dates of your internship program, and whether or not the internship is paid, for credit or both.
Send a suggestion our way. As the St. Louis creative scene evolves, we want this site to evolve with it. So get in touch and share your ideas for making the site a more valuable resource for our creative community.
